Windows 7 Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts, which also known as accelerator keys or hot keys, are a finite set of one key or a combination of two or more keys that, when pressed, will invoke an operation or perform a task by operating system or application program running within the operating system, or simply activate and run a program. Keyboard shortcuts or hot keys make it easier for user to interact with computer, which otherwise would typically require a mouse or other pointing device to perform the operation.

Windows 7 includes many new keyboard accelerator keys that make it easier to work with menus and other commands. Normally, the keyboard shortcuts to activate the command are listed along with command in the programs’ menus (typically a letter is underlined to indicate that it can be activated by pressing the combination of Alt key with the underlined key). Some are not listed and hidden though.

Here’s the full list of Windows 7 keyboard shortcuts or accelerator hotkeys available on the operating system level and also for several built-in application programs in Windows 7, as published by Microsoft.

Windows XP Genuine Validation

1) start > run > "regedit" (without the quotes of course)

2) go to the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\Windows

NT\CurrentVersion\WPAEvents\OOBETimer

...and double-click on it. Then change some of the value data to ANYTHING ELSE...delete some, add some letters.....just change it!

now close out regedit.

3) go to start > run >

"%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a"

(again, dont type the quotes)

4) the activation screen will come up, click on register over telephone, then click on CHANGE PRODUCT KEY,

Enter in this key: JG28K-H9Q7X-BH6W4-3PDCQ-6XBFJ.

Now you can do all the updates without activating, and the Genuine Microsoft Validation Thing won't bug you no more!!

XP Hack

In case of user password boot the pc in safemode by pressing the F8

key and then selecting the Safe Mode option. You can now logon as an

administrator and XP wont prompt for the password. Incase of an

administrator account try rebooting the pc in DOS. access

C:\Windows\system32\config\sam. Rename SAM as SAM.mj

Now XP won't ask for password next time You Login. Also

Go to the cmd prompt .

Type net user *.

It will list all the users.

Again type net user "administrator" or the name of the administrator

"name" *.

e.g.: net user aaaaaa *(where aaaaaa is the name).

It will ask for the password.

Type the password and there you are done.

Windows Vista Keyboard Shortcuts

Do things faster with Keyboard Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts help maximize efficiency at common tasks, the lesser known ones are even sometimes passed around as expert tips for Windows. I have to admit that seeing someone in action that knows all the shortcuts and can use them together efficiently is a very impressive sight. This post is to share some of my personal favorites, listen to what others find useful and link to more info.

There are many improvements in Vista, so I won’t be able to cover them all. Here are a few that I find the most addictive:

1. Launch any app

a. WinKey, Type an app name (eg. Word), Enter

b. A variation of this is looking for Control Panel applets like Indexing Options (eg. Index)

c. CTRL-SHIFT-ENTER will also launch the app elevated

2. Instant Search on any folder – gives me fast contextual search that includes file contents

a. CTRL-E, type

3. Advanced Query Syntax (AQS) in search box – not technically a keyboard shortcut, but a favorite search feature of mine

a. From:Bill Date:Yesterday

b. For more details look for ‘Advanced Search’ in Vista Help

What are your favorites? Anything missing that you would like to see?

For more info you can search the Vista Help topics for ‘Keyboard Shortcuts’. The IE team also has a Quick Reference for IE 7: check out this web page for the list. (Special thanks to Robert Sweeney for the link!)
